As more and more people join the fight for ethical fashion, there is a greater need for events that bring change makers together. Just like other global events around the world, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit has high goals.
[Note: At the time of writing the event had been moved from its original date in May to its new date in October, we’ll update the article if this changes in the future, thanks]
For the past decade, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit has brought together industry leaders to tackle pressing issues. Devising strategies to combat social, environmental, and economic issues surrounding fashion, this Summit hopes to bring about lasting change.
On October 12 and 13, change makers will be able to do just that. The Global Fashion Agenda organizes the annual summit. It is a non-profit leadership forum dedicated to driving urgent, systematic change in the industry.
This year, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit is perched at a unique time for fashion. While the event is still months away, the Summit leaders have already shifted the focus and theme to the fashion industry post-pandemic.
Redesigning Value
The Covid-19 pandemic happening across the world is devastating in all regards. However, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit recognises that, ultimately, there could be a silver lining.
Because the pandemic disrupts production, transportation, and consumption, the fashion industry will have to restart once it’s over. This could allow the industry to “redesign value” as the theme of this year’s summit states.
The Summit wants companies to build a “better new normal,” built on sustainable business models and higher core values. It focuses on open dialogues, networking events, and interactive studios and exhibitions. With over a hundred brands participating in over 600 meetings during the event, partnerships and change are sure to take place.
The interactive forum and design studio give attendees a chance to view sustainable solutions in person. They have the opportunity to talk with innovators and suppliers on how to incorporate those solutions into their own brands. Furthermore, it also gives brands a chance to show off their progress.
By presenting their most innovative solutions, companies have the opportunity to show others what can be done. Whether it’s a multi-million name brand or a new startup, everyone can learn from one another, with the ultimate goal of making fashion better for all.
“To work within Planetary boundaries and meet global goals.”
In addition to the interactive parts of the Summit, there will also be a handful of industry leaders speaking on various topics. These range from sustainable solutions, maintaining ethical supply chains, and keeping your business ethical and economical. There will surely be a topic to fit your needs.
The Summit speakers is comprised of a variety of writers, academics, brand leaders, and designers.
Because of the change of date for the Summit, the summit leaders are still in the process of reorganization. While they have announced some of the speakers and panelists, many more still aren’t. Their website is the best place to check for updates.
Whether you’re part of a small business that wants to become more ethical or a huge corporation that needs to shift the focus, this Summit is for you. It offers everything you need, with the chance to hear from change makers, learn from other companies, and network and partner with others.
Fashion isn’t the enemy. But, as the leaders of the Summit know, it does need to redesign its values.
